Fish Garage,Urwa, Mangalore

A Must needed Pit stop at Fish Garage, to all Mangalorean Seafood Cravers.

A foodie shall always remain a foodie no matter he is a scientist, a business man, a doctor or even a software engineer. The foodie ghost shall haunt him/her for eternity. Sachin Poojary, Vignesh Kini, Sachin P.R.,Hemanth Karkera and Shishir Samani are few among such living examples that you can find in our very own Mangalore. Employed at Thomson Reuters, Mangaluru, these software engineers always had a soft corner for food in their hearts and of course in their tummies. Working for their living during the day and living their passion in the evening led to the birth of ‘Fish Garage’.

Located at Chilimbi, opp. Wines & Spirits, Urwa, Mangaluru, ‘Fish Garage’ is a place where tradition meets creativity, where uniqueness meets innovation, a place where you can gear up for an exciting food ride which will accelerate your taste buds for sure. What tempts my palate had a pit stop at the fish garage and we won’t be lying if we said we were actually stopped by the aroma of the food, spread outside the restaurant.

We got a chance to meet one of the partners, Mr Sachin Poojary who recommended a few must try dishes. They have different types of traditional meals out of which he asked us to try Moode with Bangude Panna Upkari, their special of the day – Lucknowi Prawns Biryani (as a biryani lover, had to try this). The Kerala famous Muru meen Pollichatthu was also available here. Their signature dish Anjal with Green Masala and their newly launched starter Maya deep fry Kollataru & Bollinger Rawa fried. But the main highlighting dish had to be Bat Fish Tawa fried + Green Masala Fry. Also i couldn’t resist myself from not trying the ghee roast, with Crab & Squid.

  • Maya Deep Fry Kollataru

A starter quite good enough to give a crunchy kick start to your appetite, the maya deep fry kollataru is served with reasonable quantity where one is better than the other.

  • Anjal (seer fish) Green Masala:

The seer fish known as anjal in Tulu coated with green masala is simply a mixture of tradition and awesomeness. The Green masala is their signature dish, we finished this first as we couldn’t stop ourselves. Yes, the Green Masala was very tasty something that we would recommend everyone to must try it. the size of the anjal piece was huge, as you can see in the picture, it covered the whole plate.

  • Moode with Bangude Panna Upkari:

This dish is tradition at its best. the idli steamed in screw pine leaves known as moode in kannada & Tulu is a konkani traditional dish served along with Bangude (mackerel) phanna upkari also known as bangude pulimunchi. The pulimunchi is a mixture of sour and spiciness, having it along with the moode gave us a raw feeling mangalorean culture. This dish is personally my favourite here, we emptied it in minutes.

  • Crab Ghee Roast & Squid Ghee roast

Ordering Ghee roast was customary and this time we choose crab & Squid.

The dish itself was beyond our expectations with the quantity and the size of the crab. With soft juicy meat on the inside roasted with ghee roast masala, the crab ghee roast was indeed mouth watering.

The squid along with ghee roast Masala compliment each other very well. The squid was fresh, as it was soft and truly something to remember as a Mangalorean seafood delicacy.

  • Lucknowi Prawns Biriyani:

The Lucknowi Prawns Biriyani was the Today’s Special served with a pinch of mangalorean tadka. The biryani was good as it could capture the essence of lucknowi style biryani with prawns.

Its a big fish btw, from your fingers till your elbow😁 . Bat fish here prepared with two different Masalas is unique only to fish garage. Its not on the menu and specially prepared on fresh catch.

You can ask them to notify you when they prepare it again. Green Masala is their signature Masala, it isn’t very spicy but it has the perfect amount of acidity which makes you more hungry as you eat it. The Tawa Masala is perfectly made, making a great combination of two amazing Masalas.
To every seafood lover, this is a must try dish. And every person who does have must interest in seafood or isn’t fascinated by it, then the best place to start is at fish garage.

Muru meen Pollichatthu | Reef Cod Fish in Banana Leaf Wrap. The fish itself is tasty, which is fried in this kerala style spices and then wrapped in a banana leaf and fried again.
Which infuses the fish with the tasty banana leaf aroma. It was a new experience to taste a fish, which was steaming hot, sautéed with the Malabari spices which always makes me drool and also very light to eat.
The feeling was absolutely divine. And it’s something that would impress anyone.
Cause this dish ain’t gonna disappoint.👌😋

Fish Garage has a wide variety of delicious seafood dishes other than the batones we tried. These were our favorites which is surely gonna make us do pit stops at the garage quite often.

the pricing here is fair and not too pricey for an average customer, with a budget of 600 for 2. The place has an amazing mood fixing feel to it, the lights here compliment your mood into liking the ambience. The place is small, can accommodate maybe up-to 30 people, and its very neat and clean, the ambience light also builds on your mood into more relaxing.
