-The best of Street food in Mangalore
First thing that comes to my mind about street food is that it’s spicy, affordable, lively and packed street ambience, well if it’s lively at least. When it comes to street food there are very few places in Mangalore that does it right, well I don’t want to say Appu shets is one of them unless you go and try it yourself.
Located near New Chitra furniture store, which used to be an adult movie theatre that everyone knew about. Okay not everyone, at least most who lived in that area. I stumbled upon Appu shets by reading the blog of 3 hungry men, as they described it as ‘Mangalore’s best eggs’. Appu shets has a lot of varieties that can tempt you and I can’t say otherwise because they have the best eggs I have tasted in Mangalore, whether its fried, half boiled, boiled or even scrambled for that matter. They are also famous for their egg chilli, which I don’t know why is the only thing that my friend always orders. I mean they have nearly 20 plus items on the menu, that’s not justice.
I love the egg bullseye and the stumbler, the stumbler is unique to them. Eggs fried along with bread crumbs and lot of different spices. But then my favourite, like my friend who picks only one item even though he has 20 different options is the ‘egg spring roll’.
To simply put it, its egg omelette rolled and stuffed with egg chilli. Breaking the omelette and having it along with the egg chilly is the best part. Hell yeah its, yum!
And also to add on, they have a wide variety of fresh fruits. Which they also serve sliced up and made into as juice. We were lucky enough to get Mango juice and Ramaphal even though the season had just started, and it was the first time I had tasted Ramaphal which tasted absolutely divine.
Pricing is for all items is fair and affordable, the ambience is alright, clean and mostly packed on weekends.
The only con would be, it gets packed up very quickly. Hence I would suggest 4-6 pm to be decent time so that you get what you order quickly and have a place to sit. If I have missed out anything please let me know in the comments section below, thank you.
